Down the Path

Down the path he leads me
Hand in hand we walk
Though my mind was full of questions
I know I did not talk
Yet voices all around me were chanting songs of old
And they led us through the forest
Through the night all dark and cold
My pace was quick and sure for my daddy's legs were long
And many times that evening I wished to be back home
The night was crisp and cool and I shuddered from the cold
I have some friends to meet you is what my daddy told
We came upon a clearing where a fire was blazing bright
And its light was casting shadows as bodies roamed the night
I heard familiar voices that were chanting songs of old
When a stranger's hand tugs at me and breaks my daddy's hold
Come with me he tells me and he takes me to a place
Where other girls are huddled and he tells me I am to wait
Though commanded not to speak of what went on that night
And for all these years I did'nt simply out of fright
But now my past is haunting me
And oh it is plain to see
And I want to tell the world by God
